---------------------------------------------------------- UHF observations (last updated on January 15, 2016) ---------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- Experiment name: Tomography PIs of the SP: Y. Tanaka, T. Sakanoi, K. Kauristie, T. Sergienko, and B. Gustavsson Operators: Y. Ogawa (NIPR) and H. Kondo (Tohoku Univ.) UHF radar observation (beata, CP1) ---------------------------------------------------------- 2016-01-05 18:00-28:30 UT 17:12 UT run /kst/exp/beata/beata fm CP1 SP 18:00 UT enablerec Tx power : 1.4 MW 18:19 UT crowbar 01:51 UT crowbar 04:30 UT stopexp Note: We extended the SP up to 04:30 UT because auroral condition was pretty good. 2016-01-06 19:16-04:30 UT start the EROS several times. 19:03 UT run /kst/exp/beata/beata fm CP1 SP 19:16 UT enablerec Tx power : 1.45 MW 04:30 UT stopexp Note: It was a clear sky and auroras were seen above Tromsø. We extended the SP till 04:30 UT because of the excellent condition. There were troubles with starting the UHF run, and we therefore started the run at 19:16 UT. 2016-01-07 18:00-02:00 UT 17:32 UT run /kst/exp/beata/beata fm CP1 SP 18:00 UT enablerec Tx power : 1.4 MW 02:00 UT stopexp Note: It was also a clear sky and auroras were seen above Tromsø. Electron density enhancements were seen in the EISCAT data between 22 and 24 UT. 2016-01-08 18:00-02:00 UT Cancelled due to bad weather and geomagnetic activity condition. 2016-01-09 18:00-02:00 UT Cancelled due to bad weather. 2016-01-10 20:05-02:00 UT 19:40 UT run /kst/exp/beata/beata fm CP1 SP 20:05 UT enablerec Tx power : 1.1 MW 21:15 UT Tx power : 1.3 MW 02:00 UT stopexp Note: We waited for a clear sky and active auroras in the beginning of the SP, and then we started the SP when auroras were seen above Tromsø. Electron density enhancements were seen in the EISCAT data between 20 and 24 UT. 2016-01-11 17:47-04:00 UT 17:38 UT run /kst/exp/beata/beata fm CP1 SP 17:47 UT enablerec Tx power : 1.3 MW 19:00 UT Tx power : 1.45 MW 01:43 UT crowbar (UHF & VHF) 03:55 UT crowbar (only VHF) 04:00 UT stopexp Note: We started the EISCAT UHF run at 17:47 UT because bright auroras were seen in the magnetic zenith at Tromsoe. However, weather was very bad for all ALIS stations. Electron density enhancements were seen in the EISCAT data between 17 and 04 UT. 2016-01-12 18:15-02:30 and 03:13-05:00 UT 17:38 UT run /kst/exp/beata/beata fm CP1 SP 18:14 UT Tx ON 18:15 UT enablerec Tx power : 1.4-1.5 MW 02:30 UT stopexp 02:37 UT run /kst/exp/beata/beata fm CP1 SP 03:13 UT enablerec Tx power : 1.4 MW 03:25 UT crowbar (only VHF) 05:00 UT stopexp Note: It was a clear sky in Ramfordmoen. Geomagnetic activity was high (Kp =4). 2016-01-13 19:00-01:00 UT 18:09 UT run /kst/exp/beata/beata fm CP1 SP 19:00 UT enablerec Tx power : 1.5 MW 22:48 UT strange data recording till 22:52 UT. 01:00 UT stopexp Note: Some auroral activity occurred in the beginning of SP, but it became quiet till the end of SP. 2016-01-14 19:00-01:00 UT 18:32 UT run /kst/exp/beata/beata fm CP1 SP 19:00 UT enablerec 19:03 UT Tx power : 1.4 MW 19:05 UT Tx power : 1.5 MW 01:00 UT stopexp Note: It became a clear sky at Ramfordmoen and we observed great auroral activities at several optical sites (Abisko, Kilpisjärvi, and Ramfordmoen) after 20 UT. ------------------------------------------------------------ Summary of the EISCAT UHF runs: (1) 18-02 UT on January 5-12 (CP-1 FA mode, beata code, VHF CP run simultaneously. We will stop the runs when sky and geomagnetic conditions are not good for the campaign.) (2) 19-01 UT on January 13-14 (CP-1 FA mode, beata code) ------------------------------------------------------------
